AIRFIX IS ON A BUSY release schedule at the moment. Here's a fine 1:72 scale kit for World War II aviation buffs.


SMN report: The excellent Boeing B-17G and Bomber Re-supply Set have been combined in one box. For diorama lovers, the pairing of these two is a natural, unless you are into box collecting. 

We appreciate the importance of a 'mint and boxed' scale model, especially in the diecast collectible market, but here it's a convenient way of having all those vital components neatly gathered together.

So, an excellent double-kit, and we look forward to seeing some brilliant airfield dioramas in times to come.

Mat Irvine reports Mike Mackowski is a long-time space modeller and one of the main members of the online Yahoo ‘Space Modelers’ group. Over some years now, Mike has compiled seven hardcopy books especially for modellers on spacecraft topics, including titles for Gemini, Mercury and two volumes on Apollo, one for the Command Service Module and one for the Lunar Module. ACADEMY ONTOS TANK-KILLER KIT TO 1:35 SCALE

SMN reports The ROK (Republic of Korea) kit maker Academy is on something of a roll at the moment - company representatives were delighted to collect 2010 Modell des Jahres (Model of the Year) awards at the recent Nuremberg Toy Fair for their quite superb 1:35 scale Merkava tank and 1:72 scale M977 cargo truck. And now Academy has a new-release 1:35 kit of the somewhat less-known M50A1 Ontos tank-killer. This was a small tracked vehicle in service from 1959-1965, and used with some success in the Vietnam War, by the US Marine Corps for fire support. Armament was a central machine gun, surrounded by six 106 mm (4.2 in) recoilless rifles, three on each side. Like all weapon systems, the Ontos (from a Greek word meaning ‘thing’) had some weaknesses, not least being the fact that the crew had to reload the rifles from outside, leaving themselves vulnerable to enemy fire. About the book Adam Johnson - also the driving force behind specialist model outfit AJA Models - has compiled and written the most detailed reference book on the movie so far, full title 2001: The Lost Science - the Frederick I. Ordway III Collection . With much material supplied by Dr Fred Ordway ( more on him below ), a great deal of the content has never been published before.
